Stitch or Die

Finalmente concluí o projetinho que rendeu três sneak peek. O quadrinho "Stitch or Die" é da designer Barbara Ana e vocês poderão encontrá-lo no Creative Poppy.

Adorei fazer este bordado, apesar da dificuldade com as linhas (tive que mudar as cores de algumas conversões, que não pude encontrar por aqui...). A maior diferença ficou mesmo na tesourinha, que bordei toda com o fio metálico prata.

Achei que ficaria bem deixá-lo no bastidor azul, que deu mais colorido à Memorabilia.

I finally concluded my little project from the last sneak peek. The picture "Stitch or Die" is from Ana Barbara designer  and you can find it on Creative Poppy.

I loved making this embroidery, despite the difficulty with threads (I had to change the colors of a few conversions, I could not find around here ...). The biggest difference was in the scissors, which I stitched throughout with silver metallic thread.

I thought it would be fine leaving it on the blue hoop, which gave more color to the Memorabilia.

A dica de hoje é a seguinte: vou colocar o resultado final deste projeto no que eu chamo de “Memorabilia”: uma parede onde coleciono imagens e pequenos objetos que contam um pouco da nossa história, lembranças de viagens, momentos importantes, etc.

Lol), das crianças, de viagens, um quadrinho com nossas caricaturas feitas pela talentosa Ivna Mourão, a pombinha do Divino Espírito Santo, uma lembrança que trouxemos da nossa primeira viagem à Amazônia... Tudo tem muito valor e significado para mim.

Sneak Peek #3 Memorabilia

A snake? Really?! Where a snake falls in this embroidery? And a blue one?

Today's tip is: I will put the final result of this project in what I call the "Memorabilia": a wall where I collect pictures and small objects that tell a little of our history, travel souvenirs, key moments, etc…

Memorabilia has pictures of our parents, their weddings (pictures look amazingly alike! Lol), children, travel, a comic with caricatures from us made by talented Ivna Mourão (http://ivnamourao.blogspot.com/), the dove of the Holy Spirit, a souvenir that we brought our first trip to the Amazon... Everything has much value and meaning for me.

Actually my Memorabilia was very emotional, lacked a craft and fun touch why Cancerians aren't just emotional: the irony is our second language... Lol

It's easier to figure out now?

Sneak Peek #2 O Lobisomem

Vocês acharam o Sneak Peek #1 um pouquinho assustador?? =) É um pouquinho mesmo, talvez esse seja o toque divertido, meio burlesco...

Sabem, quando eu era pequena, morando numa cidade também pequena, nós (as crianças) passamos um tempo assustadas com a existência de um lobisomem, que vagaria pelas ruas depois das dez da noite, com uma grande capa preta esvoaçante e longos pêlos que cobriam os olhos.

Um pouco de rosa nunca é demais...
A little bit of pink never is enough...

Era um tempo em que a gente ainda brincava na rua e, quando o relógio da igreja soava nove batidas, o coração ficava aos saltos, dividido entre a vontade de continuar brincando e o medo de ver o lobisomem. Os mais velhos ficavam propagando “teorias conspiratórias”, de que não existia lobisomem coisa nenhuma, que era tudo invenção dos adultos para que estivéssemos cedo em casa...

A gente morria de medo. Ouvíamos uivos e sentíamos cheiros esquisitos de enxofre... Bons tempos...

Meus medos são tão concretos e reais hoje que acabo sentindo uma certa nostalgia do tempo dos medos irreais, dos monstros fantásticos, das quimeras e do que havia para além de 100km.

So freak! lol

Talvez por isso esse projetinho tenha me conquistado: resgata meus mais queridos medos infantis. Mas por hoje chega: já dei pistas demais!

Sneak Peek #2 The Werewolf

The Sneak Peek # 1 was a little scary, wasn’t it? =) It was even a little, maybe this is the fun, half burlesque...

You know, when I was a kid, living in a small town, we (the kids) spent time frightened by the existence of a werewolf, who would wander the streets after 10pm, with a big black cape and long flowing hair covering his eyes.

It was a time when we were still playing in the street, and when the church clock sounded nine hits, the heart was jumping, torn between the desire to continue playing and the fear of seeing the werewolf. The older kids were spreading "conspiracy theories" that there wasn't werewolf, it was an invention of the adults that would want to see us early at home...

We lived in fear. We heard shrieks and felt weird smells of sulfur... It were good times...

My fears are so concrete and real today... I just feel a certain nostalgia for the time of unrealistic fears, of fantastic monsters, and the chimeras that were beyond 100km.

This project won me over: it rescues my dearest childhood fears. But it’s enough for today: I have given many clues! lol

Sneak Peek #1 O mistério está no ar...

No último post eu mostrei minha lista de projetos para 2011, mas, de propósito, deixei de fora um trabalhinho muito especial, que eu estava louca para começar.

Vou mostrar aos pouquinhos, para ver quem consegue me dizer o que estou bordando (Gis, você já sabe, bico fechado! Lol).

Antecipo que é muito, muito divertido.

E então? Quem se habilita a dizer o que é?

Sneak Peek #1 The mystery is in the air…

In my last post I showed a list of projects for 2011, but purposely left out a very special little job, that I was crazy to begin.

I'll show it bit by bit, to watch who can tell me what I'm embroidering (Gis, you know, mouth shut! Lol).

I must say it’s very, very funny.

So, who want to say what it is?

I will give some clues: I am Cancerian and from Ceará (if you press the SAP button will appear: I'm dramatic and love to laugh at myself... lol)

O novo sempre vem!

Pois é... a tônica dos dias atuais tem sido a mensagem da velha canção de Belchior, “como nossos pais”: o novo sempre vem. Não se enganem, é a única verdade inexorável, ainda que muitas vezes a gente chore, ranja os dentes e esperneie contra o mundo...

De outro lado (estou numa vibe “Poliana”...), viva o novo! É a assim que a gente pode se revolucionar, se reinventar, jogar fora o que cristalizou, caducou, pereceu.

Gosto de imaginar Deus criando o homem, lá no seu ateliê divino, um trabalho manual de grande complexidade e delicadeza. O seu assessor-anjo chega e torce o nariz: “Mas, Senhor, parece tão frágil, tão fácil de quebrar... Não vai agüentar!” Deus sorri e diz: “Ora, ele tem a capacidade de mudar constantemente, isso o impedirá de se quebrar!”.

Adoro meus projetos em andamento (e todos os que já fiz), mas estou ansiosa pelo NOVO! Podem ser melhores ou piores, mas sua principal qualidade continua intrínseca e imutável: são diferentes!

The new always comes!

Well... the tone of this days has been the message of the Belchior’s old song, "As our parents": the new always comes. Don’t be fooled, this is the only truth, even though sometimes we're crying and shouting against the world...

On the other hand (I'm in a vibe "Pollyanna "...), live the new! It's the way we can revolutionize, reinvent ourselves, to throw out what crystallized, expired, perished.

I like to imagine God creating the man, in His divine studio, craftwork of a great complexity and delicacy. His aide-angel comes and says, "But Lord, looks so fragile, so easy to break ... It will not be durable!" God smiles and says, "He has the ability to constantly change, this will prevent it from breaking."

I love my ongoing projects (and all of I ever did) but I'm looking forward by the NEW! Maybe it will be better or worse, but its main quality is still intrinsic and immutable: it's different!

I'll share with you my "little" project list, future "WIP" posts of this year (obviously that other projects can arise at any time and take the place of these, but that's the fun in life, isn't it?):

Lista de Leitura

Dia desses, recebi um desafio no Facebook: listar os 15 livros que mais me marcaram. Foi difícil por que separar os livros que gostei daqueles que realmente me marcaram é complicado e porque, de certa forma, fiquei querendo parecer muito mais culta e seletiva do que realmente sou... lol

A verdade é que gosto de ler de tudo: do culto ao best seller. O livro precisa, no entanto, me “pegar” nas primeiras páginas. Tem que me emocionar ou instigar desde o comecinho, não tenho tempo nem paciência para ficar aguardando desfechos espetaculares se o meio é modorrento...

Reading List

These days, I received a challenge by Facebook: list the 15 most marked books of my life. Was so difficult to separate these books of others. Somehow, I would want to seem much more cultured and selective than I really am... lol

Actually I like to read everything: the cult and the pop. The book must, however, "get" me since first pages. It has to capture me from the very beginning. I have no time or patience to wait for spectacular outcome if the middle is sleepy...

The list I posted on Facebook was this:

Now we're starting a new year, period when we make the most varied balances (financial, professional, emotional, etc.) I take the opportunity to ask: What is your list? What yours most remarcable books?

O que não sabemos fazer: WIP #5

Eu realmente acredito que o que não sabemos fazer nos define mais como humanos do que o que sabemos, ou, antes, nos movimenta para sermos o que queremos ser. Eu sei fazer alguns tipos de trabalhos manuais, mas o que me movimenta de verdade é o que eu ainda não sei!

Assim, eu tinha uma verdade interior muito arraigada de que sabia fazer ponto cruz e até comentei num post anterior sobre a desvalorização desta técnica em meu estado. Na verdade, eu tinha me envolvido com outras técnicas e achava que já tinha visto de tudo em termos de ponto cruz.

Na blogosfera percebi que eu, na verdade, sequer sabia fazer o básico do ponto cruz! No Blog da Joanita, o Pontos Fishinhos, um tutorial sobre a diferença entre “ponto cruz” e “ponto cruzado” me abriu os olhos. Tive uma vergonha tremenda de meus trabalhos anteriores, todos realizados com o feio “ponto cruzado”, nunca com o “ponto cruz”.

Claro que isso me levou a pesquisar, conhecer as técnicas e um mundo vasto e maravilhoso se abriu para mim, cheio de possibilidades, designers e gráficos impensáveis!

Penso que tenho melhorado um pouquinho, estou praticando mais e explorando as múltiplas aplicações da técnica. Percebi que, às vezes, tendemos a desvalorizar algo por que realmente não o conhecemos em profundidade...

Assim, já que estamos falando em ponto cruz, quero mostrar o que ando fazendo e vocês julgam se tenho melhorado ou não... lol

O meu SAL Lizzie Kate está de vento em popa. Um Papai Noel bem engraçadinho já apareceu:

What we don't know how to do: WIP #5

I really believe that what we don’t know define us more like humans than what we know or, rather, moves us to be what we want to be. I do know how to do some types of crafts, but what moves me is what I still don’t know to do!

So I had a deep truth inside me that could know how to do cross stitch and I even commented in a previous post about the devaluation of this technique in my city. Actually, I had been involved with other techniques and thought you had seen everything in terms of cross stitch.

In the blogosphere I realized that I actually do not even know the basics of cross stitch! In Joanita's Blog, the Pontos Fishinhos, a tutorial about the difference between "cross stitch" and "crossover stitch" opened my eyes. I had a tremendous shame of my previous works, all performed with the ugly "crossover stitch", never with the "cross stitch".

Of course this led me to research, to learn techniques and a vast and wonderful world opened up to me, full of possibilities and graphic designers unthinkable!

I think I have improved a bit, I'm practicing more and exploring the many applications of the technique. I realized that sometimes we tend to devalue anything that we don't really know how to do...

Thus, while we're talking about cross stitch I want to show what I'm doing and if you judge if I'm improving... lol

Uma cara só sua

Sabem, acalentei por um longo tempo a vontade de ter um blog... Até decidir quais seriam os assuntos e avaliar se estes poderiam despertar o interesse de alguém, realizei muitas pesquisas (o que faço até hoje...) e conheci muitos e maravilhosos blogs.

Aí, comecei a me inquietar com o fato de que o meu blog, por mais que eu vivesse mudando as cores de fundo, as letras, o design, ainda não tinha encontrado uma identidade própria, que se destacasse de alguma forma e que o representasse...

Pensei em pedir ajuda a algum profissional e conversei com um amigo que é designer, tentando explicar o que eu imaginara pro Linhas. Quando terminei de falar ele disse: “Se você executar sua idéia o layout do blog estará quase pronto!”.

Assim, num sábado qualquer, munida de cartolinas pretas, cola e muita paciência, comecei a criar o banner que recepciona atualmente os leitores.

Primeiro, escrevi o nome do blog de vários tamanhos e letras, sempre de maneira contínua para facilitar a colagem do fio. Após esta etapa, colei o fio sobre cada nome escrito, deixando um pedaço maior ao final, onde a agulha foi colocada. Testei a linha por cima e por baixo do nome.

A idéia de usar botões e alfinetes surgiu durante o processo, acho que solucionou bem o problema dos pingos dos ‘i’ e o tracinho do ‘t’. Dedinhos cruzados, esperei o resultado da secagem da cola e fiz muitas fotos.

Por ironia, a foto que mais gostei foi a mais “imperfeita”, por assim dizer. Depois de inserido o banner, escolhi um papel de parede cinza, mas não básico, e alterei as cores das fontes. Se você visita o blog há algum tempo, deve ter notado que mudei um pouco a posição dos gadgets, trazendo a coluna de serviço para o lado esquerdo.

Bem, não posso dizer que esta será a cara definitiva do blog, mas já posso dizer que o Linhas tem uma cara só sua. Algumas pessoas já comentaram suas opiniões. Qual a sua?

Our own face

You know, I wished to have a blog for a long time...  Before to decide what would be interesting subjects and assess whether they could attract the interest of anyone, I did a lot of research (I still do it today...) and knew many wonderful blogs.

Then I began to worry about the fact that my blog had not yet found its own identity, that represents itself in some way...

I thought to asking some professional help and talked with a friend who is a designer, trying to explain what I imagined. When finished talking he said, "If you run your idea the layout of the blog is almost ready".

Thus, some days ago, armed with black paper, glue and lots of patience, I began to create the banner that greets readers today.

First, I wrote the blog's name and letters of various sizes, always in a continuous manner to facilitate glueing of wire. After this step, I glued the cotton wire on the name written, leaving a larger piece at the end where the needle was placed. I tried the line with needle above and below the name.

The idea of using buttons and pins emerged during the process and I think that solved the problem of little point above the 'i' and the dash of the 't'. Fingers crossed, I expected the result and I made a lot of photos.

Ironically, the best photo was the most "imperfect, " so to speak. Once inserted the banner on blog, I chose a gray wallpaper, but not simple one, I changed the colors of the fonts. If you visit the blog for some time, may have noticed that I changed the position of gadgets, bringing the service column to the left side.
Well, I can not say that this is the permanent face of my blog, but I can say that the Linhas Matizadas has a face only its. Some people have commented on their opinions. What's yours?

A Saga da Linha Verde Matizada

Mãozinhas tão pequeninas para uma almofada tão grande...
Small hands for a big fluffy cushion...

Gente, eu moro numa grande cidade (somos mais de 3 milhões de habitantes, de acordo com os dados do último censo) e que ostenta uma rica tradição em artesanatos, incluindo bordados de diversos tipos, crochê, rendas, etc.

Mas, ingenuamente, comecei a almofada de folhas sem ter toda a linha necessária (Anchor Torçal 1216, de meada). Quando a linha acabou após poucos galhos, achei que uma rápida passada na loja que habitualmente freqüento resolveria o problema. Ledo engano! Começava uma saga para encontrar a famigerada 1216.

Meu maior pesadelo: ter que desmanchar o que já estava feito! Às sete da noite, depois de visitar três bairros e a maioria dos armarinhos da cidade – aquilo já estava passando dos limites! – ainda encontro uma vendedora que me olha cinicamente e, não sem um certo prazer sádico, afirma categoricamente: “Pois a senhora vai ter que desmanchar mesmo!”.

Ó criatura desalmada, pessoa sem coração! Dei o meu melhor sorriso e a mandei, em pensamentos, para aquele lugar!

Estava realmente entregando os pontos. Duas possibilidades: esperar que o estoque fosse reposto ou comprar pela internet, pagando valores exorbitantes de frete. Aí, lembrei de uma loja que fica fora desse circuito de armarinhos e que quase nunca freqüento: havia uma única e preciosa meada! O que não se faz por amor?

Novo suspense: uma única meada seria suficiente para concluir todo o bordado?? 

Não, não deu... Resignada, resolvi bordar com dois fios do novelo da mesma cor que havia comprado. Não posso dizer que ficou perfeito, mas ficou quase e isso já é mega bom...

O presente em forma de bombom, para a Ritinha, continha três paninhos de prato feitos com patchwork e apliqués. O maior, a almofada da Aninha. Não sei se deu mais trabalho concluir o bordado ou embalá-lo. Que difícil! Lol

E assim, num café da manhã que se prolongou até o almoço, conversamos muito, rimos muito, trocamos novidades, histórias, afetos e muito, muito carinho... É disso que uma amizade é feita, não?

The saga of green embroidery thread

Folks, I live in a big city (we are more than 3 million people, according to data from the last census) with a rich tradition in handicrafts including embroidery.

But I naively I started the cushion of green leaves without having all the necessary thread (Anchor Torçal #1216). When the thread ended after a few twigs, I thought that a quickly passed in my favorite store could solve the problem. I was wrong!

Began a saga to find the infamous #1216…

My worst nightmare: having to undo what was already done! After visited three neighborhood and almost all of stores of materials in the city - it was already getting out of control! - I found a salesperson who looked at me cynically, and not without a certain sadistic pleasure, categorically stated: ‘Definetely, you're going to have to undo it.’

Oh, soulless creature, heartless person! I gave my best smile and I sent her (in thought) to that place!

I was giving up… I would have just two possibilities: wait for new stock or buy from Internet paying a lot of money. Then, I remembered  a store that is located outside downtown and hardly ever I visit: there was a unique and precious thread! What we don't do for love?

New thriller: one skein would be enough to complete all the embroidery? No, it did not ... Resigned, I decided to embroider  with two strands of the same color I had bought.  It wasn’t perfect, but it was almost and this is super good...

Here are the results and the gifts wrapped.

The gift wrapped like candy for Rita, had three flour sack dish towel made with pacth and appliqués. The larger gift, the cushion with the embroidery of leaves, for Aninha. I don’t know if most difficult to complete the embroidery or pack it.  Lol

So, in a beautiful morning, at a breakfast that lasted until lunch, we talked, laughed, told news, stories, feelings and so much love... That's what makes a friendship or not?

WIP #4

O meu SAL Lizzie Kate continua em andamento e tem me dado muito prazer. O temor que eu tinha de não me adaptar a bordar com o auxílio do bastidor evaporou-se. A micro-etamine está deixando os esquemas bem delicados e as cores do Natal... Ah, como eu adoro as cores do Natal! O que ajuda, acho, é que os motivos são bem pequenos, bordados rapidamente, o que também me agrada.

Saudade do Natal...
I miss Christmas...

Já recebi a quarta palavra, ‘Santa’, só para matar um pouquinho a saudade do Natal e do tempo em que críamos em coisas fantásticas e maravilhosas... A propósito, meu filho mais velho - a pessoa mais racional lá de casa - chegou à conclusão este ano, para minha tristeza, de que Papai Noel não existe.

Não posso refutar argumentos tão consistentes, mas plantei uma sementinha de dúvida na cabecinha dele, ao fazer dele e do irmão os Papais Noéis de algumas crianças que têm menos que eles. Quem sabe realmente por quais formas o nosso bom velhinho atua??

Em andamento também está o alfabeto da Margaret Sherry, dessa feita está pronto o ‘R’ de Rafael, meu filho mais novo, que adora coelhos (rabbits). Os tons são bem ternos e o resultado ficou bem bonito (estou me auto-elogiando um pouco, desculpem... lol).

WIP #4

My Lizzie Kate SAL is in progress and it’s bringing me a lot of fun. I thought I couldn’t adapt myself to embroider with the embroidery hoops, but I was wrong. The micro-aida is very delicate and the colors of Christmas ... oh, how I love the colors of Christmas! I’m stitching quickly because the words are small, which also pleases me.

I already received the fourth word, ‘Santa’, and this was good because I was missing Christmas and the time when we believed in great and wonderful things... Incidentally, my oldest son (the most rational person at home) came to the conclusion this year, to my sorrow, that Santa Claus doesn’t exist.

I can’t refute arguments as consistent, but I planted a seed of doubt in his brain, making him and his brother played like Santa Claus for some children who have less than them. Who really knows for what ways Santa Claus works?

In progress is also the alphabet of Margaret Sherry. The ‘R’ is ready made for my little Rafael, my youngest son, who loves rabbits. The tones are very light and the result was pretty good (I'm self-praising a little, sorry ... lol).
