Me, the Grinch... =)

Este Natal, pelo menos em alguns momentos, eu estive com a disposição do Grinch para as festas e comemorações... Quanto consumismo! E fui adiando as compras, com preguiça e má vontade para pensar em opções diferentes dos Natais anteriores.

No trabalho, uma amiga querida, inquebrantável, resolveu criar uma dinâmica para a nossa equipe, chamada o “Anjo do Natal”. É um jeito diferente de viver o Natal. Cada um de nós, ao invés de um amigo secreto, sorteou um “Protegido”, de quem passamos a cuidar nas semanas seguintes, como se fosse o seu anjo.

Coitado do meu Protegido, sendo acompanhado pelo Grinch, pensei! E durante dias não fiz nada por ele, enquanto e-mails, chocolatinhos e outros miminhos continuavam a chegar na minha caixa de mensagens ou a serem depositados na minha mesa.

Aí, ontem de manhã, chego ao trabalho e encontro esta caixinha...

E assim, o Grinch, tão amado, voltou a amar o Natal. E fim!

The Grinch

This month, in some moments, I was feeling like the Grinch about the holidays and celebrations... As consumerism! And I was lazy, unwilling to think about different options of Christmas gifts.

At work, a dear friend who never gives up, has decided to create a game for our team, called the "Christmas’s Angels". It's a different way of living Christmas. Each of us won a "Protected", of whom we care on following weeks, as if we were their secret angels.

Poor Protected, the mine! He/she will be supported by the Grinch, I thought! And for some days I did nothing for him/her, while e-mails, chocolates and other little gifts continued to arrive in my mailbox or to be deposited on my desk at work.

Then this morning, I came to work and I found this little box...

The box contained three small keys that helped open the doors of my Grinch’s heart...

I think my Angel knows me a little bit, he/she knows my love by the threads, do you agree? So, the loved Grinch loves the Christmas again. The end!

A beleza da palavra “Gorgeous” e alguns términos

Na minha última aula de inglês deste ano, discutimos sobre nossas palavras “mais preferidas” naquela língua. “Gorgeous”, para mim, ganha disparado! Adoro esta palavra, ela enche a boca e, por isto, eu a apelidei de “palavra gorda”. Lol

“Gorgeous” lembra pão quentinho com manteiga, pudim de leite, bolo de aniversário, gente de sorriso fácil, colo de mãe, carinho, ombro pra chorar, beijo na boca... Tudo de bom e bonito que alguém fizer a gente pode dizer que é “gorgeous”. Se alguém veste uma roupa bonita ou está feliz a gente pode declarar que está “gorgeous”. Viram?! Entenderam por que escolhi essa palavra? 

Uma rápida busca na internet e vi que não estou sozinha! No dicionário, gorgeous significa “1. splendid or sumptuous in appearance, coloring, etc.; magnificent: 2. Informal . extremely good, enjoyable or pleasant.”  (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/gorgeous)

Mas minha definição é melhor, não?! =)

Assim, terminar algumas coisas que foram deliciosas de fazer também pode ser sinônimo de “gorgeous”. Meus cupcakes já viajaram para a Inglaterra e já, já chegarão no Love Quilts UK.

O coração lilás “Love is Sweet” será um sache, presente para uma amiga querida que adora esta cor. Aliás, lilás, para mim, seria “lovely”. “Gorgeous” mesmo é laranja. Mas isso, obviamente, varia de criatura para criatura e confesso que o bordado ficou extremamente delicado no lilás.

The beauty of the “gorgeous” and some finishes

Last English class this year, we discussed about  our "most preferred" words in that language. "Gorgeous" it’s my favorite one! I love this word, it fills the mouth and, therefore, I dubbed the "fat word." Lol

"Gorgeous" means warm bread with butter, milk pudding, birthday cake, people smiling, mother's lap, tenderness, shoulder to cry on, french kisses... Everything good and nice that we do it’s possible to say: "gorgeous." If someone looks sharp or is happy we can state that it is "gorgeous." Did you see?? Did you understand why I chose this amazing word? 

A quick search on the internet and I saw that I'm not alone! In the dictionary, gorgeous means "1. splendid or sumptuous in appearance, coloring, etc..; magnificent: 2. Informal. extremely good, pleasant or enjoyable. "(http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/gorgeous)

But my definition is better, isn’t it? =)

Thus, to finish some things can be "gorgeous" too. My four cupcakes traveled yesterday to England and will come in Love Quilts UK (I hope).

The lilac heart "Love is Sweet" will be a sachet, a gift from a dear friend who loves this color. Moreover, lilac, to me it would be "lovely." "Gorgeous" is only to orange color. But, obviously, it varies from creature to creature and I confess that heart was extremely delicate when embroidered in lilac.

As this subject deserves a deep reflection (;-D) I leave you with the hard work of choosing your favorite word and to share with us.

Uma Guirlanda Reciclada

Minha guirlanda de natal

Eu adoro o Natal! Para vocês terem uma idéia, arrumei meus enfeites no dia 1º de Novembro!! Nem sei se não é pecado arrumar a casa antes do Dia de Finados!! Lol

Mas o fato é que adoro os enfeites, os brilhos e adoro inventar coisas novas. No entanto, dentre os artefatos do Natal, tenho uma discreta preferência pelas guirlandas.

Ano passado, estivemos em Buenos Aires no mês de novembro e as lojas de lá já estavam cheias de artigos natalinos. Trouxe muitos enfeites diferentes para a minha árvore. Com estes, e com outros que a minha irmã estava descartando da árvore dela, refiz a minha velha guirlanda, que já estava meio amassada e sem vida.

Primeiro, reforcei a sua estrutura com galhos verdes, deixando-a mais robusta. Na base, mantive as hastes de trigo, que simbolizam a fatura e a prosperidade (estou precisando... lol), decorando o meio com flores vermelhas que vieram da árvore da minha irmã. Do lado esquerdo, bolas novas, compradas em BsAs. Do lado direito, uma libélula vermelha, bem delicada. Dos dois lados, galhos cor de cobre, que tirei na minha própria árvore. Ainda coloquei um floco de neve dourado e um laço novo, sobre o laço antigo, deixando-o duplo.

Gostei bastante do resultado. Ano que vem, farei novas mudanças e, com a quantidade de animais que tenho na minha árvore este ano, talvez surja uma guirlanda só de bichinhos. Quem sabe?!

E essa incrível pena? Como é que todas as árvores de natal do mundo não têm pássaros, borboletas e libélulas???

Bom mesmo é viver o espírito do Natal e, com um pouquinho de disposição e criatividade (sem gastar rios de dinheiro), decorar a casa para tornar este mês o mais especial do ano. Feliz Natal para todo mundo e Paz, que estamos precisando!

I love Christmas! To give you an idea, I packed my decorations on November 1st! I don’t know if it isn’t sin to decorate home before the Day of the Dead! Lol

But the fact is that I love the decorations, the sparkles and I love inventing new things. However, among the artifacts of Christmas, I have a slight preference for wreaths.

Last year we were in Buenos Aires in November and the shops were already full of Christmas items. Brought many different ornaments for my tree. With these and other that my sister gave me, I recycled my wreath which it was a little bit damaged.

First, I reinforced its structure with green branches, leaving it more robust. At base, I kept the stems of wheat, which symbolize the prosperity (I need it... lol), and I glued some red flowers, from my sister's tree. On the left, new balls, bought in BsAs. On the right, a red dragonfly, very delicate. On both sides, copper-colored branches, I took them in my own tree. Also put a gold snowflake and a new double ribbon.

I really liked the result. Next year I will make new changes and, with the amount of animals I have on my tree this year, maybe I'll make a wreath of pets. Who knows!?

Lets to live the spirit of Christmas and, with a little creativity and willingness (without spending lots of money), to decorate the house to make this the most special month of the year. Merry Christmas to everyone and Peace, what we need!Ouvir

Há alguns dias eu tive a satisfação de realizar minha primeira compra no Etsy e escolhi para a estréia gráficos com motivos marinhos da Kimberly, do Blog Big B, que adoro! A Kim me enviou lindos cavalos marinhos e conchinhas delicadas, que pretendo usar em toalhas de banho para meus sobrinhos, com a utilização de pontos livres, como sugere a designer.

Estou fazendo parte do Fórum Arte-PontoCruz e comecei a participar de um SAL de Natal (é muito tarde ou muito cedo?? lol), com um tema da Lizzie Kate, designer que adoro há tempos: o Christmas Spirit Double Flip.

Imaginam a minha ansiedade para bordar coisas tão lindas?!

O post sobre o espanto que a maioria das pessoas sente ao conhecer meu lado craft rendeu comentários maravilhosos que me fizeram muito, muito feliz. Algumas amigas relataram suas histórias e, nestas, percebi o valor terapêutico dos trabalhos manuais, o quanto o ato de parar, ainda que por breves momentos, tomar linhas, agulhas e tecidos nas mãos, desacelerar e apaziguar a mente da correria do cotidiano pode ser benéfico pra saúde.

Outro ponto importante: os trabalhos manuais nos conectam de uma maneira que nunca imaginei possível! Em toda a minha vida profissional não fiz os contatos que tenho feito nesse nosso mundinho craft. Rússia, Indonésia, Inglaterra, meu amado Portugal, Espanha, Canadá? Estão logo ali, ao alcance de um click... Que coisa espantosa!

Ainda que bordar e ler sejam atividades, digamos assim, solitárias, o blog tem me permitido estar em contato com pessoas e artes as mais diferentes e isto é transcendente. A todos os leitores, de todos os países, pela oportunidade que me dão de compartilhar minhas idéias e trabalhos (o que me enche de alegria e energia) meu sincero obrigada, thank you, terima kasih, спасибо, gracias, Dank, tack, grazie, dankzij.

Feel days ago I had the pleasure of making my first purchase on Etsy and I chose to debut some graphs with marine motifs, of Kimberly from Big B. Blog, what I love it! Kim sent me beautiful seahorses and delicate seashells, which I intend to use at bath towels for my nephews with the embroideries of free points, as suggested by the designer.

The darling Joanita, from Pontos Fishinhos, another blog I follow and recommend, gave me another wonderful tip. Now I am part of the Forum Arte-Pontocruz (www.arte-pontocruz.forumeiros.com), and I began to participate in a SAL for Christmas (it's too late or too early? lol), with a theme of Lizzie Kate. I adore this pattern for some time: the Christmas Spirit Double Flip.

Imagine my anxiety to embroider all this beautiful things?!

The post about the surprise that most people feel to know my hand craft side yielded wonderful comments that made me very, very happy. Some friends told their stories, and these, I realized the therapeutic value of manual work, how the act of stopping, albeit briefly, taking lines, fabrics and needles in hands, it can slow and calm the mind the rush of everyday life, can be beneficial to health.

Another important point: the manual works connect us in ways I never imagined possible! Throughout my professional life I didn't the contacts I have made after my entered in this craft world. Russia, Indonesia, England, my beloved Portugal, Spain, Canada? They are right there, within reach of a click ... What an amazing thing!

While embroidering and reading activities are, let’s say, lonely, the blog has allowed me to be in contact with people and the most diverse arts and this is transcendent. To all readers, of all countries, that give me the opportunity to share my ideas and works (which fills me with joy and energy) my sincere thank you, obrigado, Terim kasih, спасибо, gracias, danke, tack, grazie , dankzij.

Apliqués & Botox

Bem, parece que eu deveria manter segredo sobre este tópico, mas definitivamente eu não consigo... lol O fato é que me rendi à constatação de que viver intensos 35 anos cobra seu preço e resolvi, com a ajuda de uma coisa chamada “toxina botulínica” um problema que vinha me incomodando há alguns meses.

Tudo começou numa manhã qualquer, em que eu tentava desvendar o francês de uma coletânea da Marie Claire Ideés que comprara no Rio. O Rafa, meu pequeno, ao me ver tão concentrada, perguntou: “Mãe, você ta brava?” Estranhei a pergunta por que a única coisa que eu não estava, naquele momento, era brava! Sorri e respondi: “Não, filho, não estou brava! Estou concentrada”. E ele: “Então por que você está com cara de brava?”.

Naquele momento eu me dei conta de que, mesmo quando não estava com raiva, uma incômoda ruga de expressão teimava em vincar a minha testa, entre as sobrancelhas! Meu Deus, será que eu ficaria como aquelas mulheres que mesmo quando sorriem estão com cara de bravas??? Pesadelo!

Uma visita à dermatologista e a constatação: uma pequena aplicação de botox resolveria meu problema. No Brasil, dizemos que “de graça, até injeção na testa!”. Meus amigos, pois confesso que paguei, e caro, por cinco furadinhas dolorosas na testa, mas não me arrependo.

É bem estranho querer franzir a testa e não conseguir, mas estou satisfeita com os resultados. Também fiquei satisfeita com o resultado dos meus panos de prato com apliqués de frutas e legumes. Para a maioria dos detalhes, usei o ponto caseado, em dois fios de Anchor (achei que usar a Perlé deixaria um aspecto mais grosseiro nos trabalhos). Usei ainda o ponto corrente e o alinhavo simples.

Os tecidos que tinha em casa não eram, decididamente, os melhores para o recorte dos motivos. No entanto, tal como o botox, que se em demasiado tira a expressão do rosto, os motivos aplicados em grande quantidade diminuem a função primordial do pano de prato. lol

Ponto Caseado

No fim, aplicar botox ou realizar os apliqués não é coisa de outro mundo... Basta bom senso, parcimônia e um pouquinho de coragem. Os resultados compensam. Quem se habilita?

Well, it seems that I should keep quiet about this topic, but I definitely can not ... lol The fact is that I surrendered to the conclusion that 35 years has its effects and I decided, with the help of something called "botulinum toxin" a problem that was bothering me for some months.

It all started one morning when I was trying to translate the French of one Marie Claire Idées. My little son, seeing me so focused, asked: "Mom, are you angry?" Strange question, cause the only thing I was not was angry! I smiled and replied, "No, son, I'm not angry! I'm concentrating." And he said: "Then why have you an angry face?".

At that moment I realized that even when I wasn’t angry, an ugly wrinkle persisted in creasing my forehead between the eyebrows! My God, I'd be like those women who she’s smiling they even have angry face?? It´s a nightmare!

A visit to the dermatologist and the evidence: a small application of botox would solve my problem. In Brazil, we say "for free, even shot in the forehead." Folks, I confess that I paid for five painful injection stings on my forehead. It was expensive but I have no regrets.

It's kinda strange, but I'm satisfied with the results. I was also happy with the outcome of my dish cloths with appliques of fruits and vegetables. For most of the details, I used the blanket stitch in two strands of Anchor (I found that using Perlé leave a more result coarse in the works). I used even the xxx.

The fabrics I had at home were not decidedly better at cutting the motifs. However, like Botox, which if used a lot it changes the natural expression of the face, the motifs applied in large quantities diminish the primary utility of the dishcloth. Lol

Finally, to apply botox or do apliqués is not something from another world... It's necessary just good sense, thrift and a little courage. The results pays off. Are you ready?

WIP - Presentes de Natal e Outras Cositas...

Estou preparando alguns presentes de Natal para amigas especiais. Minha produção está bem atrasada, confesso... Para a Marcinha e para a Ritinha, panos de prato com apliqué de tecido, com motivos de frutas e flores.

A Marcinha, que morava numa casa enorme, com mangueiras e um imenso jardim, experimenta morar em um apartamento pequenino e está adorando a experiência. Já conhece todo mundo do prédio devido à sua enorme capacidade de agregar, reunir. A Ritinha manifestou sua necessidade e vocês sabem o quanto a questão utilitária é importante para mim... lol

Em andamento também está o bordado para o Love Quilts UK, com cupcakes fofos. Este bordado tem me dado uma grande satisfação, estou adorando as cores. Falta um bolinho e os contornos.

Quanto à leitura, adorei as dicas das minhas amigas blogueiras e comprei estes dois livros: Tempo Entre Costuras (Ana Duenas) e O Deus das Pequenas Coisas (Arundhati Roy). Estou ansiosa para começar a leitura. 

O finalzinho da Guerra dos Tronos foi eletrizante! Foram tantas reviravoltas que me deixaram tonta... lol Em 2011, será lançado a Fúria de Reis, segundo volume da série.

I'm preparing some Christmas gifts for special friends. My production is late, I must confess ... For Marcinha and Rita, dish cloths with appliqué , with motifs of fruit and flowers.
Marcinha, who lived in a big house and huge garden, tries living in a tiny apartment and is loving the experience.  She already knows everyone at the building due to its enormous capacity to comunicate and to link. Rita expressed their need and you know how much the utility issue is important to me ... lol
In progress is also embroidery for Love Quilts UK, with cute cupcakes. This embroidery has given me a great pleasure, I loved the colors. Lack one of cupcakes and contours.
I'm still thinking about doing some biscornu and bookmarks. Let's see if time will help.
As for reading, I loved the tips of my visitors and bought these two books: Time Between Seams (Ana Duenas) and The God of Small Things (Arundhati Roy). I'm anxious to start reading. The ending of the Game of Thrones was electrifying! There were so many twists that left me dizzy ... lol In 2011, the King's Fury will be released, the second volume in the series.

Legos, Pingüins e “Amélias”

Legos e pinguins são as duas maiores paixões do Gui, nesta ordem, exatamente. Ontem, quando cheguei em casa, ele tinha reproduzido um pingüim e seu pet, cuja espécie chama-se “puffle” (de acordo com Club Penguin) com suas pecinhas de lego! Achei que merecia um registro pela capacidade de abstração.

Pra variar, fiquei pensando em o quanto a maioria das pessoas vai perdendo essa capacidade, muito própria da infância, quando cresce. Os meninos criam mundos e situações as mais diversas com seus legos e outros brinquedos, vivem aquelas realidades e, com isto, vão estruturando suas perdas, alegrias, suas personalidades. Brincar é bom demais mesmo.

Quem faz craft, na minha modestíssima opinião, tenta, de certa forma, reviver este mundo infantil e, por este motivo, encontra tanta satisfação.

As pessoas que não me conhecem direito normalmente se espantam: “Mas você borda???” A palavra “borda” sai assim pronunciada com um misto de incredulidade e desqualificação, como se bordar fosse coisa de mulheres de antigamente, submissas, sem formação ou capacidade técnica para ocuparem postos de Presidente da República, por exemplo.

Antes eu ficava meio chateada. Hoje, apenas rio e respondo: “E além de bordar, escrevo sobre isso no Linhas Matizadas!” Novo espanto.

Percebi que as pessoas que se espantam desconhecem a importância do craft para a economia e para a vida de milhões de pessoas em todo o globo. Uma rápida pesquisa na internet e veremos que as coisas mais antenadas e descoladas têm um toque hand made e que, cada vez mais, essa é uma estratégia de personalização e diferenciação, contra a massificação e a industrialização dos gostos e afetos.

Óbvio que podemos justificar tudo de ruim que fazemos ou deixamos de fazer pela falta de tempo. Se como mal, é por que estou na correria. Se escolho o que visto por que alguém disse que é legal é por que não consigo nem pensar sobre o que me agrada, cai bem, etc. Se não pratico atividade física por que não tenho tempo, certamente vou ter tempo de tomar todos os remédios que o médico prescreverá...

Enfim, prefiro ser “Amélia” e fazer e viver coisas mais saudáveis, pro corpo e pra mente, trabalhos manuais incluídos. E prefiro que os meninos cresçam acompanhados de muitos legos, pingüins, fantasia, alegria, capacidade de imaginar e inventar, pra ser gente grande melhor e mais humana.

People who do not really know me usually are surprised: "But do you do embroideries???" The word "embroideries" goes well spoken with a mixture of disbelief and disqualification as if it were embroidering women's thing of the past, submissive, uneducated or technical incapacity to posts of President of a country, for example.Before I was a bit annoyed. Today, I only laugh and say: "And in addition to embroidery, I write about it in Linhas Matizadas!" New amazement.

That people doesn't know anything about importance of craft to the economy and the lives of millions of people around the globe. A quick search on the internet and see that hip things has a hand made touch and, increasingly, this is a strategy of customization and differentiation, against industrialization and massification of tastes and affections.

Obviously we can justify all the bad things that we do for lack of time. If eat bad, is why I'm in a hurry. If I choose what I wear because someone said it's cool is that I can not even think about what I like, looks good, etc.. If you do not practice physical activity because you have anytime, I'll certainly will have time to take all medications that your doctor will prescribe...

Anyway, I prefer to be "Amélia" and do things and live more healthy, crafts included. And I prefer that boys grow up together with many Legos, Penguins, fantasy, joy, ability to imagine and invent, to be adults better and more humane.

OBS: "Amélia" is the name of an old brazilian song, that values the woman who only takes care of home and the husband . Represents a submissive woman.

Tem Novidade No Ar...

A Gislene acaba de criar seu próprio blog: Coração em Ponto Cruz. Fazia tempo que eu pedia que ela escrevesse sobre seus próprios trabalhos, que vocês têm acompanhado aqui. Agora ela criou coragem e resolveu entrar nesse nosso mundinho internético.

Na primeira postagem, ela apresenta um quadro lindo que borda para sua primeira sobrinha, Melissa, uma futura bailarina. Está lindo! Suave e delicado.

Vale a pena dar uma olhada, os trabalhos da Gis são imperdíveis! Seja bem-vinda, amiga!

Seguimos com o abecedário da Margaret Sherry. O "X" e o "E" foram bordados pela Gislene. Não estão fofos? Gislene elegeu o "X" como sua letra "mais preferida", como dizem os meus meninos! lol

We followed with the ABC's Margaret Sherry. The "X" and the "E" were embroidered by Gislene. It's cute, isn't it? Gislene chose the "X" as her preferred letter. 
I'm in doubt between the "X" and "E"... What's your favorite letter?

Conclusões e Um Livro Especial

Olá, bom domingo a todos!

Já falamos, em outra oportunidade, sobre "fechar Gestalts" e como isso é sempre bom. Mas hoje preciso dizer que estou, ao mesmo tempo, feliz e triste com estes términos.

Adorei concluir o Piu-Piu que já viajou para Minas, para o Love Quilts Brasil. Escolhi uma fonte bem divertida para bordar as palavras e acho que combinou bem.

Mas, por outro lado, estou triste com o final da minha leitura do livro A Guerra dos Tronos, Crônicas de Gelo e Fogo. Estou lendo bem devagarzinho, por que o livro dois só será lançado em 2011! Tenho problema com séries, acho que já deu prá notar... lol

Nunca falta um livro na minha mesinha de cabeceira.

Esta é uma saga memorável, daquelas de tirar o fôlego da primeira à última página e, o que é mais legal, é que os capítulos são narrados, cada um, por um personagem diferente. A história vai se desenrolando sob o ponto de vista dos diferentes personagens, é muito interessante! Tem um toquezinho sobrenatural que realmente me conquistou, recomendo fortemente.

Mas vejam! Estou na página 480! Tá quase acabando... :-(

Hello, good Sunday to everyone!

We have spoken on another occasion, on "closing Gestalts" and how it is always good. But today I must say I'm happy and sad, at the same time, because some finishes.

I loved to finish the Tweety, it has traveled to Minas Gerais, for Love Quilts Brazil. I chose a fun font to embroider the words and I think it well combined.

But on the other hand, I am sad by the end of my reading the book A Game of Thrones, Chronicles of Ice and Fire. I'm reading very slowly, because the book two only will be released in 2011! I have problem with series, you know... lol

This is a remarkable saga, those breathtaking from first page to last, and what's cooler is that the chapters are told each by a different character. The story is telling from the point of view of different characters and it is very interesting! There is a supernatural touch that really won me over, I strongly recommend.

But look! I'm on page 480! It's almost done ... :-(
